After School Program Staff!
We offer an after school
program and year-round green initiatives which promote leadership in
sustainable concepts to youth. Two examples are our annual bike give away
and our computer recycling program that gets computers into the hands of those
who are the first to graduate in their family. Our after school program
supports the Johnson City School district to particularly support youth who
have been identified as at-risk to join gangs, and/or drop out of school.
Qualifications:
We are looking for
highly-motivated students who are comfortable with people from a different
background, not easily daunted by at-risk youth, to be role models, to provide
a listening ear; and assist in the day’s activities. Application and
reference check required, along with two trainings, and ongoing staff
development. While dress code is casual,
with Dream Center Staff T-shirts issued, we ask that students dress
appropriately for a setting where impressionable youth are present.
Training:
Part One of New Volunteer
Training will be offered 9/19, and 9/26. Part 2 9/20, and 9/27, 3:30
to 5:30 pm and 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Part 1 to cover the
Dream Center and site. Part 2, on
working with youth and issues which arise with at-risk youth. Please
reserve your spot with an email to: gfjdreamcenter@hotmail.com.
Interested
undergraduate and graduate students should go to the Dream Center’s website,gfjdreamcenter.cfsites.org. Click on “About page,” read and see if Dream
Center is a good fit for you. If so, click on “get involved.” Fill
out the application, save as to your documents, and send to gfjdreamcenter@hotmail.com as an
attachment. Then, attend part one and two of training. The
Dream Center also has year round initiatives to support children, youth and
families and many one-time volunteer opportunities.
